Acyclovir cream is not approved for use in children younger than 12 years old. Talk to your healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of using the medication in children.
 

Is Acyclovir Cream Used for Off-Label Reasons?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend acyclovir cream for something other than cold sores. Currently, the medication is sometimes used in an "off-label" fashion to treat other types of viral infections of the skin.
