Drug Interactions With Nevirapine XR

Fentanyl
Nevirapine XR can make fentanyl less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your fentanyl dosage to achieve adequate pain control.
 
Immune-Suppressing Medications
Nevirapine XR may decrease the level of some immune-suppressing medications in your blood, perhaps making them less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and increase the dose of your immune-suppressing medication.
 
Methadone
Nevirapine XR can decrease the level of methadone in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your methadone dosage.
 
Oral Contraceptives
Nevirapine XR may decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills, increasing the risk for pregnancy. For women taking nevirapine XR, a nonhormonal method of contraception, such as condoms, is typically recommended.
 
Protease Inhibitors
Nevirapine XR may interact with protease inhibitors, decreasing the level of the protease inhibitor in your blood. Your healthcare provider may need to increase the dose of your protease inhibitor.
 
Seizure Medications
Nevirapine XR can decrease the level of some seizure medications in your blood, perhaps making them less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase the dose of your seizure medications.
 
St. John's Wort
Because St. John's wort can significantly reduce the level of nevirapine XR in your blood, these products should not be taken together.
 
Warfarin
Nevirapine XR can react with warfarin. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely while you are taking these drugs together.
