Side Effects of Rimantadine

Agitation, hallucinations, and an irregular heart rhythm are potentially serious side effects of rimantadine that require medical attention. However, in most cases, side effects are generally mild and either do not require treatment or can be treated easily. Some of these more common rimantadine side effects include insomnia, dizziness, nervousness, and nausea.

 

Rimantadine Side Effects: An Introduction

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with rimantadine (Flumadine®); however, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. When side effects do occur, in most cases they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Rimantadine Side Effects to Report

There are a number of side effects with rimantadine that you should report to your healthcare provider. These include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Depression
  • Agitation
  • Hallucinations
  • Seizures
  • An irregular hearth rhythm (arrhythmia)
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as a rash, hives, itching, swelling of the mouth or throat, wheezing, or difficulty breathing.
