AZT (Zidovudine) -- Drug Information

Zidovudine (Retrovir®) was the first medication approved as a treatment for HIV and AIDS. In addition to being approved to treat HIV, this drug is licensed to help prevent pregnant women with the virus from spreading it to their babies. Many people refer to zidovudine as "AZT," since it was once known as azidothymidine.

Prior to beginning treatment with zidovudine, information on the drug's precautions and warnings should be reviewed with your healthcare provider. This includes knowing the side effects to watch out for, such as headaches, nausea, and loss of appetite, and how to properly store this product.
